Healing is rarely a linear process, and it rarely happens in a vacuum. True recovery requires a practitioner who understands not just the mechanics of your physiology, but the environment in which your body lives and the stories your nervous system holds.

I am Liz Zangara, L.Ac, the founder and clinical director of Brooklyn Qi. For over 25 years, I have served my patients by bridging the gap between Eastern functional medicine and Western clinical outcomes. My practice is built on a simple but profound premise: the most effective healing occurs when we address both the physical tissue and the neurological pathways that govern it.

A Trauma-Informed Foundation.

My path to Chinese Medicine was paved by a deep commitment to women's health and advocacy. After earning my BA in Women's Studies from Brooklyn College, I spent my early career working within the NYC shelter system, domestic violence safe houses, and rape crisis centers. These formative experiences taught me how deeply trauma, stress, and systemic exhaustion embed themselves in the physical body. It became clear to me that talk therapy alone was not enough; the body needed a somatic language to heal.

In 1997, I returned to school, earning my Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Health and Science (2001).

My Clinical Certifications Include:

  • Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac): State of New York
  • Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM): Pacific College of Health and Science
  • Certified Birth Doula: Supporting physiological birth and maternal hemodynamics.
  • Certified Jungian Life Coach: Integrating shadow work and deep psychological inquiry.
  • Certified Yoga Instructor & Therapeutic Massage Practitioner: Grounding treatments in structural and orthopedic alignment.

The "Neuro-Somatic" Approach.

Throughout my two decades in private practice, my work has naturally gravitated toward the complex intersections of health: fertility, childbirth, chronic pain, and profound life transitions.

By combining my background as a Doula and a Jungian Coach with my clinical acupuncture practice, I offer a truly integrated Neuro-Somatic approach.

  • For Fertility & Birth: I don't just track your follicle size or cervical dilation; I help you regulate the autonomic nervous system to optimize the maternal-fetal environment.
  • For Chronic Pain & Illness: I look past the localized pain to address the systemic inflammation and the "fight or flight" loop that keeps your body locked in a state of distress.
  • For Emotional Health: I utilize open dialogue and Jungian coaching alongside needle therapy to clear the trauma loops from your nervous system, turning psychological insight into physical relief.

Your Clinical Ally.

I believe in a collaborative healthcare model. Whether I am partnering with your Reproductive Endocrinologist during an IVF cycle, working alongside your Midwife for a home birth, or coordinating with your Orthopedic specialist for injury recovery, my goal is to seamlessly integrate my treatments into your broader medical plan.

My overarching mission is to serve you as you embark on your journey toward realizing your full physical and emotional potential. You handle the science of your life; I help you hold the space and regulate the system.
