Recurrent Pregnancy Loss & Recovery

Somatic restoration and hormonal repair following miscarriage.

Miscarriage, a chemical pregnancy, or recurrent loss, are significant physiological events that tax the body's core resources. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, loss creates a profound depletion of Qi and Blood, leaving the system physically exhausted and the nervous system in a state of high alert.

At Brooklyn Qi, we provide a structured clinical protocol to support you through this transition. Our focus is on systemic restoration—replenishing the vital nutrients and energy stores that are lost—and nervous system regulation to help the body exit "survival mode." This approach ensures your hormones stabilize and your physical strength is fully restored before you move forward.

Restoring the Uterine Environment

In TCM, the weeks following a loss are a critical window to replenish Blood and stabilize Qi to prevent long-term exhaustion. Our treatment protocols focus on three clinical milestones:

  • Endocrine Reset: Supporting the body as HCG levels drop and the HPO axis recalibrates. By nourishing Liver Blood and regulating Ren and Chong meridians, we help restore a predictable, healthy ovulatory cycle.
  • Endometrial Repair: Using acupuncture to improve pelvic blood flow, ensuring the uterine lining heals completely and recovers its optimal thickness.
  • Stabilization & "Holding": For recurrent loss, we focus on Spleen and Kidney Qi—the systems responsible for the "holding" capacity of the uterus—to support cervical integrity and uterine stability for future pregnancies.

Recalibrating the Nervous System

Pregnancy loss often creates a "trauma loop" in the nervous system, where the body remains in a state of high cortisol and chronic fight-or-flight. In TCM, this manifests as Heart and Gallbladder Qi disturbance, leading to the "breath-holding" that often creates anxiety in subsequent pregnancies.

Utilizing Liz's background in Jungian Coaching, we address the psychological architecture of this anxiety. We work to down-regulate the sympathetic nervous system and settle the Shen (the spirit/mind), helping you decouple the physical experience of pregnancy from the expectation of crisis. The goal is to move your body out of a high-stress state and back into a state of physiological safety.

Biological vs. Personal Readiness

There is a difference between being emotionally ready to try again and being biologically recovered. Whether you intend to conceive immediately or require months of rest, our goal is to ensure your Qi and Blood are fully replenished so you are no longer operating from a state of depletion. We provide diagnostic and therapeutic support to ensure you are physically prepared when you are ready to take the next step.

Common Questions

How soon after a miscarriage should I come in?

You can come in as soon as you feel physically up to it. Acupuncture is excellent immediately following a loss (D&C or natural) to help the uterus contract, reduce bleeding/cramping, and calm the emotional shock.

Can acupuncture prevent another miscarriage?

While we cannot prevent losses due to chromosomal errors, we can support losses caused by low progesterone, clotting issues, or high stress. By optimizing egg quality before conception and supporting the luteal phase during early pregnancy, we aim to stack the odds in your favor.

Do you support "Pregnancy After Loss"?

Yes. This is a huge part of our practice. Once you conceive again, we typically recommend weekly "holding" treatments through the first trimester (week 12) to calm the uterus and—more importantly—calm your mind during those vulnerable weeks.
